Motivation
A character’s Motivation is their most important piece of information on the Character Sheet. It describes what has drawn that PC to the Frontier, and what they hope to achieve or accomplish. It also determines whether a PC ultimately finds absolution on the Frontier (see Ending the session).
When creating a PC (see Creating the Posse), a player should choose a Motivation that matches their background, what was left behind, and what might make for a fitting and thematic conclusion to their story.
There are currently eight Motivations, and any given Moniker has a choice between three possibilities. for example, 'the Kid' can make a choice between Community, Companionship or Vengeance.
- Selflessness: I strive to put the needs of others above myself, and am willing sacrifice my own happiness, wellbeing or life if required;
- Serenity: I strive to promote peace and tranquiliy, find quiet and independence, put conflict behind me, and dissuade others from violence;
- Community: I strive to strengthen connections, mend disagreements, and bring harmony to my neighbours;
- Justice: I strive to right wrongs, uphold laws and values, and lawfully prosecute criminals and villains
- Honour: I strive to act virtuously, abide by a code, and never falter in my duty or my word;
- Repentance: I strive to leave a story which will be told long after I'm gone, be remembered for the right reasons, and go out in a blaze of glory;
- Companionship: I strive to establish bonds, find tenderness and understanding, and build reciprocal trust with others;
- Vengeance: I strive to punish misgivings, avenge wrongs, and pursue an eye for an eye through frontier law.
